OverStitch Bariatric Surgery Revision

OverStitch Revision Procedure, is a safe and effective alternative to help you get you back on track with your weight loss by reducing the size of your enlarged stomach pouch and outlet to their original post-surgical proportions. Patients can usually go home the same day of the procedure.

How Does the OverStitchTM Revision Procedure Work?

The procedure is performed using a small flexible endoscope and specialized devices that allow sutures to be placed through the endoscope. The scope and suturing devices are inserted through your mouth into your stomach pouch the same way as a standard endoscope. Stitches are then placed around your stomach outlet to reduce the diameter, typically from the size of a silver dollar to the size of a dime. The same technique may then be used to place additional sutures in your stomach pouch to reduce its volume capacity.

*What Are the Benefits of the OverStitchTM Revision Procedure?

A traditional bariatric surgery revision surgery can take longer than the original procedure and you are three times more likely to develop complications. Scarring and adhesions from the initial bariatric surgery often make open or laparoscopic revision surgery challenging. However, an endoscopic bariatric surgery revision procedure decreases your risks when compared to traditional bariatric surgery revision. You will experience less pain, recover faster and have no abdominal scarring. You will most likely be discharged the day of the procedure, but each case will vary based on your physician’s recommendation. *Results may vary

Am I a Candidate for the OverStitchTM Revision Procedure?

This procedure may be for you if you have had a gastric bypass procedure and have regained significant weight. Some gastric bypass patients regain significant weight after bariatric surgery, most commonly caused by the gradual stretching of the stomach pouch or outlet.

When your original gastric bypass procedure was performed, your stomach and outlet were made very small to reduce the amount of food you were able to consume and slow the passage of food through your digestive tract. This helped you to feel fuller longer after eating just a small amount and weight loss occurred due to a dramatic decrease in your calorie intake. Many clinicians have shown that when the stomach pouch and/or outlet gradually stretch, it takes longer for you to feel full and a result, you may begin to regain weight.
